We are horrified and heartbroken by the confirmation of a mass grave containing the remains of 215 Residential School children. GCSU and its membership stand together with Indigenous communities. We hear their voices and share tears with them. GCSU is demanding reconciliation and justice for the atrocities and suffering caused by Canadian Residential Schools. We are asking our members to contact their provincial and federal government offices to demand accountability and to fully fund the search of unmarked graves in all school grounds. The horrors of Canada’s residential schools should be brought to light for the entire world to see in order to seek a path of healing and to ensure justice is served and those organizations and persons responsible are held accountable. For more information please visit the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada website www.trc.ca specifically volume 4 of the TRC report pertaining to missing children and unmarked graves.

We ask that you to take time to watch Gord Downie’s, “The Secret Path.” While terminally ill with cancer, Gord created this powerful masterpiece which artistically recounts the horrors or Canada’s residential schools.
