Today, September 30th, is National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour Indigenous children who have been impacted by residential schools.

We wear orange to support the Indigenous-led grassroots campaign of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is recognized as a symbol of the ongoing tragedies experienced by Indigenous children, especially the acts of colonization that has been attempting to eradicate the culture, freedom, and self-esteem of Indigenous children.

The GCSU understands the need for continuous commemoration of the tragic and histories and ongoing impacts that have resulted from residential schools.

The GCSU council will continue to work with our Indigenous students to act as supports and advocates.

We recognize that this day may be challenging for some, for those who may need mental health supports please contact
(866) 925-4419 for emotional crisis referral services for residential school survivors
(855) 242-3310 for The Hope for Wellness Help Line
