NOTICE OF CORRECTION: GCSU Election By-Election

A previous By-Election Notice that was issued (Nov 24, 2022) indicating that the position of GCSU Vice President Academic was open for nomination was incorrect.

GCSU Chief Returning Officer would like to advise that the following positions are now open for nominations:

Vice-President Executive,
Vice-President External,
two (2) positions for Councillor at Large

Dear Students,

Positions of Vice-President Executive, Vice-President External and Two (2) positions for Councillor at Large are vacant and now open for nomination via By-Election.

Grenfell Campus undergraduate students now have the opportunity to elect the following GCSU members for the 2022-23 academic year.

Vice-President Executive:

To chair the Environmental Affairs Committee;

To represent the union and communicate positions and policies taken by the Union to external bodies and agencies;

To coordinate and manage all campaigns being approved by the Union on the Local, Provincial, and National level;

To Communicate to Council any external issues which may affect Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland or its students;

To promote an ongoing relationship with international, national, provincial, civic, and community groups in accordance with the Union’s policies;

To submit a written report to Council regarding any meeting attended as a delegate of the Union; and

To complete at minimum twenty (20) office hours per week.

Vice-President External:

GCSU Councillor(s) at Large:

Two (2) positions are vacant and are now open for nomination via By-Election.

Council consists of seven Councillor positions (Arts, Entertainment, Environment, Fine Arts, Nursing, Science, & Social Science). These representatives play a significant role in representing you internally and externally of Grenfell Campus and ensuring the success of the Union. Do you think that this appeals to you? If this sounds like something you would like to become involved in, then you should consider running for one of the councillor positions.

As of 4 PM Thursday, November 24th you will be able to obtain a Nomination Form for these positions at AS 276 (In the GCSU wing, behind the student lounge) or from the CRO, mmustufa@grenfell.mun.ca.

Nomination forms must be returned IN PERSON to Kirk Wiseman (AS276B) or to the CRO (mmustufa@grenfell.mun.ca) by Sunday, November 27, 2022 @ 4:00 P.M.

*All candidates must be 19 years of age or older.

*All candidates must be GCSU Union fee paying members of the Grenfell Campus Student Union.

*ESL Participation & Voting Information: Regular ESL students are not eligible to participate in the GCSU elections. However, ESL students registered for a minimum of 2 regular courses and pay the GCSU Union fee are permitted to run to for Council. ESL students who are registered for 1 or more regular courses at Grenfell Campus and who pay the GCSU Union fee are permitted to vote on the Election Day.

Call for Nominations: Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 4:00 P.M

Close of Nominations: Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 4:00 P.M

Campaign Begins: Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 4:30 P.M. The candidate must meet with Chief Returning Officer prior to the start of their campaign. It is the responsibility of the candidate to attend the candidate information meeting in order for their campaign to start on time.

Withdrawal Deadline: Tuesday, November 29 , 2022, at 4:30 P.M.

Campaign Ends : Thursday, December 01, 2022 at 4:30 P.M.

Election Day : Friday, December 02, 2022, from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 PM
