Grenfell Campus undergraduate students have the opportunity to nominate and elect new GCSU President, Vice President Academic, Vice-President Executive and Vice President External each year.

Do you think that this appeals to you? If this sounds like something you would like to become involved in, then you should consider running for one of these positions. Executive positions are open to student attending Grenfell Campus in clear academic standing enrolled in two (2) or more courses at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

ESL Voting Information: Regular ESL students are not eligible to participate in the GCSU elections. However, ESL students who are registered for 1 or more regular courses at Grenfell Campus and who pay the GCSU Union fee are permitted to vote on the Election Day.

Description of duties are as followed:

To be spokesperson for the Union in a matter consistent with the policies set out by council;
To enforce the constitution and By-laws of the Union;
To Call Meetings and set the agenda for Council;
To coordinate relations between the Union and the Administration of Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland;
To attend meetings of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Senate;
To carry out the duties of an absent Vice-President;
To act as a signing officer of the Union;
To submit a written report to Council regarding any meeting attended as a delegate of the Union; and
To complete at minimum twenty (20) office hours per week.

To maintain relations between the Union and the faculty of Memorial University of Newfoundland in all respects to Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland students;
To chair the Nominating Committee;
To facilitate communications between Council and members of the Union;
To attend meetings of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Senate;
To manage relations between Council and its Caucuses;
To maintain awareness of current academic issues and developments and to inform the Council of the same;
To prepare academic policy recommendations for consideration by the appropriate authority;
To advise students of the campus regarding academic appeals;
To submit a written report to Council regarding any meeting attended as a paid delegate of the Union; and
To complete at minimum twenty (20) office hours per week.

To chair the Entertainment Committee;
assume the role of the Chairperson in that person’s absence;
To assume the role of the President in that person’s absence;
To act as a signing officer of the Union;
To attend to all internal matters and relations of the Union;
Be responsible for overseeing the financial procedures and records of the Union;
To manage relations between Council and its Clubs and Societies;
To attend to all of the services of the union;
To Provide a weekly memo informing the Union of current events;
To submit a written report to Council regarding any meeting attended as a delegate of the Union; and
To complete at minimum twenty (20) office hours per week.

To chair the Environmental Affairs Committee;
To represent the union and communicate positions and policies taken by the Union to external bodies and agencies;
To coordinate and manage all campaigns being approved by the Union on the Local, Provincial, and National level;
To Communicate to Council any external issues which may affect Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland or its students;
To promote an ongoing relationship with international, national, provincial, civic, and community groups in accordance with the Union’s policies;
To submit a written report to Council regarding any meeting attended as a delegate of the Union; and
To complete at minimum twenty (20) office hours per week.

PLEASE NOTE: This position is open to any undergraduate student in clear academic standing who is enrolled in two (2) or more courses at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

As of Monday, March 02, 2020 at 4:00 PM., you will be able to obtain a Nomination Form for at AS276 (In the GCSU wing, behind the student lounge).

Nomination forms must be returned to Kirk Wiseman in AS 276B or to the CRO by Monday, March 09, 2020 at 4:00 P.M.

Election Timeline

Call for Nominations: Monday, March 02, 2020 at 4:00 PM.
Close of Nominations: Monday, March 09, 2020 at 4:00 P.M.
Candidates Meeting: Monday, March 09, 2020 at 4:45 P.M. in the GCSU Boardroom
Campaign Begins: Monday, March 09, 2020 at 6:00 P.M.

MANDATORY: The candidate must meet with Chief Returning Officer prior to the start of their campaign. It is the responsibility of the candidate to attend the mandatory candidates’ information meeting in order for their campaign to start on time.
*Withdrawal Deadline: Monday, March 16, 2020 at 4:30pm
Candidates Forum: Friday, March 13, 2020 @ 1 P.M.
Campaign Ends: Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 8:00 A.M.

Mobile polling:
(Library): Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 8:30 A.M, to 11:30 A.M.
(Dining Hall): Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 11:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.
(Nursing school): Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 2:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Election Results: Election results will be released via Grenfell email at approximately 6:00 P.M.
