Welcome to the new normal of remote learning! I hope that you are up and running and prepared for the fall and winter semester ahead. My name is Drishti Patel and I am your GCSU Vice President Academic for the 2020-21 academic year. I’m in my third year of undergraduate studies, majoring in Psychology. If this was a typical school year, you would easily find me in the hallways of the Arts and Science building or the Ferris Hodgett Library. Nevertheless, we shall remain connected virtually and you can easily reach me by email anytime.
As the Vice President Academic, I advocate for Grenfell students during academic appeals and represent the GCSU membership on multiple university committees. I am also responsible for advising students regarding academic opportunities and ensuring that every student at Grenfell is provided equality in terms of academic fairness. I am also responsible for the various caucuses that form an integral part of the Grenfell Campus Student Union. Caucuses are meant to support and voice opinions of groups of people with common interests or concerns and are safe spaces for open conversations. For instance, the international caucus is formed to voice the needs of international students, as they form a minority group amongst the general student body. Some other caucuses are the women’s caucus, indigenous caucus, black caucus, queer caucus and disabilities caucus. Students who identify with specific caucuses are welcome to attend meetings and this is one of the many ways of getting involved on campus.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding academics, require more information on caucuses, or just want to have a chat, please feel free to send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I hope you have a successful academic year and hopefully we’ll be able to meet in-person sometime next year!
